Why Did No One Notice?

She woke up. It was dark. Her mouth was dry and she tasted blood. Her body hurt as she moved slowly into a sitting postition. Her mind was fuzzy. What had happened?

She scrambled around and found a light switch. She was in her bedroom. As she gazed around it all came back to her. The party. The drinking. The boy who wouldnt leave her alone. The feeling of light headedness. The memory loss after he too her hand and she followed him.

Where had he taken her? She looked in the mirror. There were no marks on her face. But her arms and legs were covered in bruises.

There was a sharp pain between her legs. She knew she had been raped. She ran to the toilet and vomited. Her parents were not home. They had gone away for the weekend so she had invited a few friends over..who brought a few more. Too many strange people. Too much drinking.

She collapsed onto her bed. Sleep was the answer for now. She fell into a deep slumber. To forget.

She told no one. Not a soul. She suffered in silence. And became terrified of boys. She lost all her friends because she closed up and retreated into herself. She never knew who had done this to her. And if anyone did,no one had said a word.

The violation of her body consumed her. The hatred she felt escalated. The depression she spiralled into got worse. And when she found out she was pregnant, she took her life. She left a note. All it said was "Why did no one notice? Why did no one care? Why me?"

If you see your friends are hurting please dont turn a blind eye. They may be pushing you away but most of the time they are only crying out for help. Look for the signs before its too late. copyright gothgirl 2008
