Urband Legend?

Then Diana noticed the old train tunnel to the right of them. Her friend had said something about the tunnel but Diana hadnt really been listening and struggled to remember what her friend had said but couldnt. All she wanted to do was get into warmth and safety. They took their torches and entered the tunnel. They were glad to be out of the wind more than anything else. The ground sloshed under their feet and the mosquitoes buzzed around their heads. Diana warned Scott not to go in far or they would be bitten to death. The wind howled as the storm worsened. Dripping wet they clung to eachotherfor warmth as there was no point in changing as the clothes in the back packs were wet through.
Diana and Scott loved to go hiking and camping along the local tracks. One weekend they set off early, back packs full of clothes, food and supplies. It was a windy day but no rain was forecast even though a few clouds hovered above. It was almost an 8 hour walk to the campsite they wanted to stay at so they started walking at 7am. After about 3 hours Scott noticed a few black clouds were starting to gather in the sky and cursed to himself, hoping it didnt rain as he had stupidly forgotten to put their wet weather gear in his pack. They walked alone. There were no other people around. They stopped at the first campsite for lunch at 1130am and were a bit shocked to see it was empty. But then again they had been to empty site before so this was not unusual though Diana felt a chill go up her spine. She knew she was being silly and pushed any weird thoughts away.
They set off again half an hour later. The weather was getting worse. Black clouds had filled the sky and the wind was picking up again. They briefly discussed staying at the last campsite but decided to continue on. They were due to reach the next site about 330pm. At 230pm thunder and lightning crashed across the sky. Then the rain began. The wind whipped at their faces. Diana screamed to Scott for the wet weather gear so he had to tell her they didnt have any and she gave him an angry glare. They decided to try and find some cover but the bushes and trees gave no shelter. So they pushed forward, trying to hurry to reach the next camp.
Suddenly Scott yelled out and let go of Diana, falling back into the mud.Diana screamed as he frightened her then shone the torch on him. He was holding his leg and grimmacing in pain. Something had bitten him. As Diana shone the torch around she saw a snake slithering away into the darkness. She knew how to suck the venom from the bite but could not find it on Scotts leg. All she saw was a pinprick of blood. Scott was looking drowsy and she started to get worried. Suddenly she felt a stab of pain in the back of her arm. She spun around but saw no snake. There was nothing there. The pain spread through her arm and she started to feel relaxed. As she lay in the mud next to Scott who was now asleep she remembered what her friend had told her about the train tunnel. It came back to her in a rush of horror. She had told Diana not to go into the tunnel as a mad man lived nearby in the bushes and if anyone ventured into the tunnel he would most likely kill them. He would use a pea gun to shoot a poisonus sleeping drug into his victims and kill them within a few mintues. Diana had laughed when her friend had told her and passed it off as an urban legend. But now it made sense and what were these marks as they were not bites? As the poison spread through her body she managed to shine the torch and saw the most digusting man she had ever set eyes upon, standing over her. Long matted unwashed hair. Rags for clothes. His face twisted and deformed like he had been in some sort of accident. The stench of his body odour was almost unbearable. As Diana closed her eyes she was grateful not to have to find out what this animal was going to do to her now she was dead. Something about eating his victims flickered in her dying mind. But she was gone even before she had time to think about it. copyright gothgirl 2009
