She sits in the school yard alone. Others kids play nearby. They don't like her. They call her names. Pick on her. Make jokes about her. Pull faces at her. And she doesn't even know why. She holds the tears back. She feels hurt and ashamed. Humiliated as others watch her demise. Wishing she could run and hide away forever. Wishing she was safe in her home. Away from the pain of knowing others hated her. Wishing she was dead.

Oh how she wanted to put her head down and cry. But she held it high and proud. Trying to show she did not care. Trying to show she was strong. Trying to show them that they would never win. But how long could she play this facade for? How long before the pain in her heart got too much for her to carry? She did not want to tell her parents. She did not want to cause a fuss. She thought it would make things worse. So she carried on and let them abuse her. Smiling at them as they said their cruel words. Smiling on the outside but dying on the inside. How she wished a hole would open up in the ground and pull her in. She wished she were dead. Anything was better than this torment. But she put up with it and one day school was over for good. And she was glad she had survived. As life was different from then on. And she made friends and did not get judged in the world of adults. copyrigt gothgirl 2009
